Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Modern EV charging equipment is a standardized electrical connection to transfer electric power from the grid to an electric vehicle, much like plugging in an electric appliance at home.

The chargers will work on most all electric vehicles with onboard battery charging equipment. They do not work on older EV’s without onboard battery chargers. While there may be exceptions (consult your vehicle owner’s manual), cars, trucks and motorcycles with standard charging protocols that accept a standard J1772 Level II charge connector should be able to charge.

Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. The levels represent the rate of charge. Level 1 is the lowest rate of charge. Level 2 is the most common type of charger. Level 3 is DC Fast charging and currently the fastest available.

EV charger locations are listed on the SMF website for each parking area.

Yes, there are signs for EV chargers. In most places there are also directions to the chargers.

  • Downtown Sacramento:
    • The Public Parking Garage and Employee Parking Garage chargers are available twenty-four hours per day and seven days per week. First come, first served. A valid access card for monthly parking is required to enter the Employee Parking Garage.
    • The St. Joseph’s Parking Lot chargers are available twenty-four hours per day and seven days per week. First come, first served. A valid Juror Parking Permit is required Monday through Friday 6 am to 5 pm.
  • Branch Center:
    • Branch Center Road, including Conservation Road chargers are available from 6 am to 3 pm with a four hour charging limit. Select chargers are available to 6 pm.
  • ​Sacramento Area Sewer District:
    • Goethe Road chargers are available 24 hours per day and seven days per week. First come, first served.

Anyone with a ChargePoint App or ChargePoint card who is allowed to park at the location.

During normal business hours, when people are at work or doing business with the County.

Generally, there is a 4 hour parking limit for actively charging vehicles. Limits and restrictions are posted at each location.

  • No, users with a ChargePoint account can: 

 

  • ​Elect to receive text or Email message when your vehicle is completely charged.
  • Elect to receive text or Email messages if your charging session is interrupted for any reason such as a GFCI fault or disconnected cable.
  • View fuel and greenhouse gas (GHG) savings of your vehicle.
  • Track your vehicle’s charge history.

Accident damage is the responsibility of the person causing the damage or the vehicle owner’s insurance company. The County is not responsible for situations or actions that are beyond the County’s control.

We do not have staff to be able to respond “immediately” however Parking staff downtown may be available to report faulty chargers. Generally, problems should be reported to ChargePoint directly.

Yes. However please observe the limits and restrictions (if applicable) posted at the charging location.

Download the ChargePoint App to your smartphone or activate the charger with a ChargePoint card.

Yes. Usage may be monitored by ChargePoint according to the terms of use of the ChargePoint App. The County cannot monitor individuals or vehicles. The County can only see total electric power consumption of all stations combined or the greenhouse gas emissions offset though diversion of gasoline gallons to kilowatts consumed. Users can utilize the ChargePoint App to determine if a ChargePoint Station is occupied or available.
